Into The Shop - YETI brought to you by West Marine.
Check out YETI
So YETI had come out with a Hopper a few years back. It was a very popular item of a soft cooler. It didn't leak, it was great for everything whether you were just fishing, ballparks, kids picnicking, really just a cool item. Well, honestly the zipper was a little bit tough, but like YETI does they are always raising the bar.
They've come out now with the M30 and it has a couple of straps that you just unbuckle and here you go you're in it. It's simple as it gets its magnetic, it's very easy to open. Close it up, fold it over, make the two buckles, throw it in the truck. Throw it in the back of the minivan with your kid's snacks. It's not going to leak. Check it out at West Marine.

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches so do the first few cold fronts of the year. With these cold fronts comes a migration of mullet, ballyhoo and pilchards that stirs up the pelagic species like Wahoo, Sailfish and Kingfish. The timing couldn’t be better because a few Kingfish in the Yeti can make for a Thanksgiving side dish or appetizer that your guests will love.
Here is my favorite recipe for smoked Kingfish spread and the one I will use for the big meal but also for several football games. I know it is good because there have never been any leftovers.
Yeti keeps stepping up their game. Here is the new Yeti Loadout Bucket. The strongest bucket ever
Each of the fish we fish for have ways that they can be held safely. There are very few fish that we catch that do not have dangerous parts. Teeth, sharp fins, bills or gill rakers can all cause damage to your hands while other fish just react wildly to being held.
As a Captain or an avid fisherman, it is important to know how to handle each fish to get it in the Yeti or to release it safely and unharmed.
Taking care of your catch:
Take only what you can properly handle, store and eat. Here are some tips for keeping your catch cool and fresh:
Fresh fish will only last a few days in the fridge, but freezing your catch properly will preserve it for months, if done the right way.
Back in the day when we started using the radars to navigate inlets and find fish. We had to get to the boat early to turn the radar on and then wait. Yeah, and then once it warmed up, then you had to actually pick a target in the marina and set the gain on it set to sea state for the day and then going off that one marker you knew that you were dialed in for the day and you do every day.
Our edge on the water is the fact we find the birds first. The radar gets us in the right area, binoculars put us in the right spot. Everyone on board will have a set of the Nikon 7 by 50 Global Compass binoculars with a built-in Compass.
The scales first mate board shorts are another tool in my arsenal with four-way stretch and a padded shammy waistband. I know that when I'm hooked up, I have an easy spot to rest my rod-butt. I'm not going to hurt and I'm not gonna have to reach for a rod belt.
The technology today is just as fast as it can go, right? Lighter, faster, stronger… Well, Shimano has figured that out. They've identified two major problems with the old technology and fishing rods. One of them is Twist, right? So you make a cast you don't realize it, but the blank is twisting. Every rod you got in your closet is twisting, you can tell me it doesn't, but it does and it affects your accuracy and your distance. Well, Shimano has identified that problem and fixed it.

There's a lot of fishing lines out there today, there are all types, all colors, all sizes. Well, we've been with Power Pro for a really long time. We've been with them since the beginning, amazing product, the best there is. Well, they've even gone a step further. Power Pro now has Maxcuatro. What that is it's a line that is 25 percent thinner diameter.
We're down to Key West we're going to go fishing this week. And Steve is going to put me on some of his favorite wrecks. And when we're on the wrecks (back in the day) we would mark them with a big meatball on top of it and we wouldn't know what we're looking at. We would figure it was bait and we'd be happy knowing that something was there.
The Mercury Active Trim is a GPS, speed based, automatic engine trim system. This responds to the weather around you responding to the weather conditions around you and fuel economy. Now the engine will set the trim for you so you no longer have to. I know many guys who don’t even use their trim because they don’t want to deal with it. The trim is super important for leveling the boat off and saving on fuel - that is why this invention is so awesome.
The newest edition to the Scales gear family is the Fisherman Board Shorts, made my fisherman for fisherman. One of my favorite features is the padded waste band - when we are fishing all day long with spinning tackle, fighting the fish is just the beginning. Then you have to fight the pain of when it hits you in the hip. Scales built protection right in for that exact situation. There is also a built in plier pocket with polyester so the pliers don’t get jammed up - aside from that they are extremely comfortable. Check them out!
We had the chance to sit down with Tom Rowland of Saltwater Experience and be on his podcast. We got to talk about our stories and how we started the Into The Blue show. If you are interested in listening you can listen to the podcast at the top of this page.
I get asked all the time what my favorite line is to fish with. Braid line is a thing of the future, but Power Pro have used the Spectra HT technology and made Maxcuatro. This line is 25% thinner diameter - what this allows us to do is use the thinner diameter for a smaller reel.
With the new SIMRAD Halo Radar, any and every feature is available at your fingertips. Radars aren’t always necessary for fishing and boating, but they do come in handy when something may go wrong.
Unfortunately, not every fish is swimming in the Keys. Luckily, for us, we have the AmeraTrail trailers to take our boat anywhere we choose. This past week, we travelled to Louisiana, in search for the biggest snappers we could find in the Northern Gulf.
With the new SIMRAD Echo Sounder, there are three new features to be aware of: Minute Marker, Color Marker, and Color Erase.
Whether you’re out tournament fishing/charter fishing/ or just out boating, you have to have a reliable engine. Mercury Marine is the most innovative in reliability and corrosion resistance. They come with a 3 year factory warranty in corrosion resistance. They have 2x as much stainless steel as any other competitors.

We have been a big fan of the SeaDek material for quite some time. We used it on the cooler tops at first and was very impressed with the durability, grip when standing on it and the ease at which it would clean up. Next we installed it on the gunnels of our 36.
