I have been a big fan of the SeaDek material for quite some time. Scott and I used it on the cooler tops at first and was very impressed with the durability, grip when standing on it and the ease at which it would clean up. Next we installed it on the gunnels of our 36.
I liked it so much that I decided to cover the entire boat on my new 36 Yellowfin. This was a great decision. As we all age a bit, it becomes a little tougher and tougher to stand up all day in a rocking boat. The first thing I noticed about the SeaDek was that I was not as tired at the end on the day. It is kind of like going barefoot vs wearing running shoes. Try it and you will see what I am talking about.
When I was a kid, I could fish barefoot all day, but today, I really want to wear shoes. It helps with stability, balance, grip and fatigue. With the SeaDek all over the boat, I noticed that I felt fresh much longer in the day and at the end of the day I was not as beat up.
One of my concerns when thinking about putting the SeaDek all over the boat was the clean up. This proved to be a non issue. It cleans up as well as a standard gel coat finish and requires no special care.
If you are considering it to refurbish an old boat or to install on a brand new one as I just did, go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed.
See you on the water,
Capt. Steve Rodger
