S11:E6 - “Tuna Magic Hour” (2019) - Capt Scott Walker and Capt Steve Rodger take us to the Magic hour of tuna in Key west.
We headed out to Ocean’s Edge Resort and Marina in Key West Florida for some tuna fishing, Scott heard there was some Wahoos in the 33040, so we headed out for the Tuna Magic Hour. Wintertime in the Keys, Scott and I love to go out and try to catch as much tuna as we can and with that comes a lot of prep. There is a lot of work going in for that one magical hour because that it all it takes.
During this time of the year, all the fish seem to be right up on the edge of the reef. So what we like to do is we like to sit right up on the edge of the reef where the fish like to hang out in the shallow water. As the tide pushes the baitfish offshore a little, the fish get on them. So what we’ve done for years is find a little piece of structure, a wreck or something to anchor around. So then you can sit there and bottom fish while you wait for that topwater bite.
Scott showed me how to can Tuna with his recipe, you can check that out HERE (How To Can Tuna). Check out below some of our favorite shots from this episode of the Tuna Magic Hour.
